Flash!!!! Radio News Bulletin!!! And, what the Current sag-AFTRA Leadership plans to do with our Background Actors!!!

Arlin Miller

The latest from former SAG USAN board member Tom LIgon on background actors and those actors who do ADR work:  “…..but in an area so lacking in need of talent, experience and skill, the union could very easily demand that loop-group wranglers open up a percentage of their positions to BG regulars.”

Hmmm, so according to USAN/UFS member spokesperson, Ligon, those who do ADR and background work have no talent or skill. And if you think he doesn’t speak for the USAN/UFS group, I’ll prove it to you!

Those USAN/UFS followers who visit this website Ned V., Allen L., Bob C., Jack S., Sean M., etc. let’s see if one of them will speak up for those SAG members maligned in Ligon’s tirade.  What was that guys.  But, but, but…*

Mr Ligon aside, I posted the above on the SAG Actor Bulletin Board to give the (USAN) UFS apologist, mentioned in my post, the opportunity to dispute Tom Ligon’s put-down of BG and ADR Actors.  And surprise, surprise, not one of them stood up for their fellow actors demeaned in his post.

Furthermore, one only has to check out the new AFTRA video contract, approved by the current sag-AFTRA board, which replaced a superior  SAG video agreement, that covered all performers including Background Actors, to see how actors were sold-out.  (*That SAG agreement conveniently disappeared from the sag-Actor website, once I posted it on this website.)

But then I don’t have to tell you actors, who have lost your health insurance,  as a result of our current  leadership’s surrender of SAG jobs to AFTRA that it’s a betrayal  which makes it very difficult for actors to qualify for coverage, and pay health premiums which have doubled.

Radio News Bulletin!!!

LOS ANGELES (January 18, 2013) – SAG-AFTRA Today Released the Following Statement:

We’re pleased and excited with the results of the union election at KPCC.  We are looking forward to working with the new SAG-AFTRA bargaining unit in partnership with KPCC management to negotiate a first contract.

The new bargaining unit will cover 65 reporters, producers, show hosts and news anchors at KPCC and is moving forward to negotiate a first contract.

We are proud of the effort to organize a union at KPCC and believe that the employees’ commitment to positive engagement, along with a lot of hard work — delivered this great result.

KPCC reporter and member of the union organizing committee Matt DeBord said, “We want to thank our KPCC station employees who participated in this election and we look forward to continuing our working relationship as we move forward.”

The organizing campaign at KPCC started in 2012. Station employees requested an election with the National Labor Relations Board on November 20, 2012. The count was conducted by NLRB Region 21 in Downtown Los Angeles today at 12:30 p.m. and results were 35 yes, 26 no. –

Ahhh!  A moment of clarity!  As actors are learning, this merger is only hurting them, but, but, but…it will be  a great recruiting tool, adding to  AFTRA’s Health & Retirement coffers.

Look as a young Disc Jockey kicking around the country, for the first ten years of my career, AFTRA meant nothing, but, but, but then again, if I could have had a SAG card to flash around to the chicks.  Welllll, yeah!

Not only that but a chance at all those yummy TV V/O spots, and residuals.  $$$$$$$$$$$$ which even I had heard of way back then.  Yeah, again! So, yes this is gonna be a great recruiting tool for AFTRA broadcasters.  Unfortunately, it has, and will continue to be at the expense of SAG actors.
