The Ol’ Watchdog got an unexpected phone call this morning from SAG’s General Counsel David White. Mr. White said that he had received several calls concerning one of my posts and was calling to set the record straight regarding the disappearance of the “Missing out on Back Residuals” ad from the front page of the SAG website.
He stated, and I’m paraphrasing here, that the removal of the announcement was part of a general overall Consolidation* of the segments that are now included under the singular heading of Resources. He continued that there was no nefarious intent in the page renovation which had been in the works for months.
I reiterated the points that I had made in my previous post.** He agreed that perhaps the Missing Residuals Announcement should be restored to the main page and advised me that he would see what he could do to facilitate that action. He also agreed that it would be a good idea to place the ad in SAG’s Actor’s Magazine. And to a final suggestion that having trustees for the ‘Missing Actors Trust fund’ might not be a bad idea.
Mr. White also informed me that there are only two staff members assigned to find the thousands upon thousands of missing members or their heirs— in order to forward them missing residuals! And they had hoped to increase those staff members, if the dues increase had been passed. Ahhhhh, Okay! Since, this was not a debate, I let that one slide. And instead cordially invited Mr. White to call or e-mail me should I ever got my facts wrong!
If and when that happens, I will surely let you know.

*On the positive side of this Consolidation, at least it didn’t cost millions of dollars and not one single insert was sent out with a residual check.
